I am back in Williamsburg, Virginia, because I found a deal on a property for Hilton Vacation Club Greensprings Williamsburg. I used 1,040 Club Points instead of 2,600 to book a two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite with a balcony. Although I was traveling solo, I managed to save 60% of my points. All properties I book through my timeshare portfolio are available on the Hilton website. The rate was $658 for a three-night stay. By the way, this property only has two and four-bedroom suites.
I flew nonstop to Norfolk on Southwest Airlines, though the return flight had a layover in Baltimore-Washington. If you ever find yourself with time to spare, check out the BWI Priority Pass lounge. I was pleasantly surprised to see new chairs in the lounge. Every time I visit BWI, the staff is always friendly and welcoming. Many credit cards now include lounge access as a perk. Before you fly, check your credit card benefits.
2024 taught me a lesson with Budget Rental Car. After a 4-hour wait, I received a car with the check engine light on. I returned it, and the replacement had visible damage in multiple places. I made sure to photograph and video everything, which turned out to be a good move. After my trip, I contacted customer service and provided them with my documentation. As a result, they issued me a voucher for a complimentary one-day rental, which I used for this trip. Always document your rental vehicle thoroughly. It could make all the difference if there is an issue. The experience in 2025 went beyond my expectations. From start to finish, every employee was polite and extremely helpful. Do not forget to connect your Budget and Amazon account to earn funds from your rental.
Flying into Norfolk? Look out the window for the disappearing bridge. Since I was heading back to Williamsburg, I had to drive through the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel again. I thought I was ready this time, but traffic made it another nail-biter. That two-mile stretch can feel like forever if you are not a fan of tunnels.
I checked into Building 9, one of the updated buildings. My unit was on the top floor, and there was no elevator, so I met my step goals each day. The pool is about a 10-minute walk from Building 9. While I usually enjoy resort activities, nothing on this trip caught my eye. If activities are something you look forward to, it is something to consider. I enjoyed the indoor pool area because the spa and sauna were empty. I worked out in the Fitness Center for 30 minutes before anyone else showed up. Most guests were outside playing volleyball or mini golf. There were plenty of lounge chairs available around the outdoor pool. Do not forget your sunscreen.
No trip to Norfolk is complete without a stop at CM Chicken for the best gizzards I have ever had. I also revisited PJK, a new favorite. Lynn and I first dined there earlier this year, and I had to return. I enjoyed the perfectly cooked flounder and seasoned baked beans. I also stopped by Fat Tuna Grill in Williamsburg for the broiled seafood platter. The meal included flounder, shrimp, scallops, rice, broccoli, hush puppies, and one corn muffin.
The last time I stayed at the Historic Powhatan Resort. Greensprings felt more low-key. I stocked up at Publix, and if you have not tried a Pub-Sub, head straight to the sandwich counter. There was so much chicken that I used the leftovers in a salad the next day. I also grabbed a case of water and made good use of my Mariano’s rewards number for extra savings. I ended each day with a large hibiscus tea from Panera. If you are part of the SIPS Club, definitely take advantage of your subscription. Of course, I squeezed in some retail therapy at T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, and Ross.
Make time for the Visitor Center. It is one of the largest I have ever seen. It reminded me a bit of the one in Charleston. I picked up souvenirs (an ornament and a patch). I also grabbed a bottle of local beer. The staff is helpful. If you need event tickets as an alternative to attending a timeshare presentation, stop by. Even though I picked up a guide, I forgot to bring the coupon.
