Hyatt Place Jackson/Ridgeland

Hotel Accommodations in Jackson/Ridgeland

Southwest had the least expensive fare for travel over the Indigenous People Day weekend. I crossed off my 46th state. Although Hyatt Place Jackson/Ridgeland is 20 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from downtown, I was happy with the accommodations and location. The Hyatt provides a welcoming and upscale atmosphere to unwind and rejuvenate. Best of all, I booked this stay using 5,000 World of Hyatt points. There is no carpet in the room. Amenities included a microwave and mini refrigerator. Even though I did not receive an acknowledgment for being a Discoverist Member, I asked for two complimentary bottles of water and a 1 PM late checkout. I enjoyed the hot complimentary breakfast, especially the seating for indoor and outdoor dining.

Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home

Visit a Part of History in Jackson, Mississippi

Start your journey in Jackson by paying homage to the city’s rich civil rights history. The Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home, a National Historic Landmark, is a must-visit. Medgar Evers, a civil rights activist, and his wife Myrlie played pivotal roles in the struggle for civil rights. The preserved home provides a powerful insight into their lives and civil rights movement’s history in Mississippi. The website implies the home is open for visitors, but the building was closed. However, you can walk around the property and take pictures. You should also know the home is in a residential neighborhood. Many of the neighbors waved to us as they drove by.

Margarita Flight

Iron Horse Grill

After your historical exploration, it’s time to indulge in some Southern comfort food. Most restaurants were closed on Saturday afternoon, but our Uber driver highly recommended Iron Horse Grill, an iconic Jackson restaurant. Their menu is a culinary tour of Mississippi’s flavors. We experienced Southern hospitality from the moment we entered the restaurant. We were surprised with a basket of fresh house chips when we sat down. Our server recommended the fried Mississippi beer battered broccoli with cheese sauce. I ordered grilled redfish with Tex-Mex rice, zucchini, cauliflower, and a biscuit. Of course, I could not finish everything, and I did not have room for dessert. However, I enjoyed the margarita flight. Put Iron Horse Grill on your list of dining options.

Renaissance at Colony Park

A trip to Jackson isn’t complete without enjoying some leisure time. The Renaissance at Concord Place is a luxurious shopping and entertainment destination. Explore shops like Black House White Market, Columbia, J. Crew Factory Outlet, Lululemon, Sephora, Soma, and more. After shopping, take a culinary journey at Zea Rotisserie & Bar, a hidden gem in Jackson’s vibrant culinary scene. This charming restaurant offers rotisserie-cooked dishes with a delightful fusion of flavors. Step inside to the irresistible aroma of slow-cooked meats and fresh vegetables that will tickle your nostrils. Order the salmon or rotisserie sampler. They also have drink specials on the weekend. I only needed one Bellini.
