There are several hotel rewards programs to choose from. The hotel brand you select will be a matter of personal preference. I am a diehard Hilton girl, while Lynn enjoys top-tier status with Marriott. The key to choosing the right hotel rewards program will depend on how frequently you travel. Also, keep in mind where you travel and how to earn points.
I am a Hilton Honors Diamond member, but I also book as a Marriott Bonvoy and World of Hyatt member. My personal preference is Hilton. Why? In addition to my Hilton Honors status, I am a Hilton Grand Vacations MAX owner with 9,280 Club Points. Although I brag about using Amex Platinum, I also utilize the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card to pay the annual assessment fee. I earn 18,000 HH points every time I pay my assessment fee for HGV Max. The Annual Fee for the Surpass Card is $150. Did you know Hilton has a Hotel Points Explorer website? Even if I cannot book a Hilton property with 18,000 points, I can book with points plus cash.
Another way to earn points is through Hilton Honors Dining. The next time you head out for lunch or dinner, search for the restaurant, bar, or club on the dining rewards website. You can earn bonus points every time you dine. Sign up for Hilton Honors Dining. You do not need the HH credit card to access the dining program. Use a debit or any credit card. You can also earn points by sharing your opinion in exchange for points. Sign up for Guest Opinion Rewards.
Finally, you can earn a free night award on your anniversary with select credit cards. Of course, the more money you spend across all categories, the more points you earn. Check out the chart below. I earned 25,181 Hilton Honors Points in one month. According to Google, HH points are worth 0.5 cents each.
If you follow the steps below, you will be on your way to earning points to support whatever hotel rewards program you choose.

There is an authorized user (AU) on my account. Because points earned by the AU link to my HH account, I accumulate twice as many points each month. Another benefit of being an HH member is sharing points between accounts. When my AU needs additional points for a Hilton stay, I can transfer points to their HH rewards account.
