Live Free or Die is the state motto for Manchester, New Hampshire. At first, I was taken aback by the statement. Then I realized I was traveling solo to my 43rd state and living the best life ever. I only have seven states left to visit. Live Free or Die.
I found a nonstop flight on Southwest over the Presidents’ Day Weekend. Yes, I was hesitant about taking the only nonstop flight Saturday and returning on the last nonstop flight Sunday. Then, I received a travel alert on Tuesday. Because I was unsure of an on-time departure, I canceled my reservation at DoubleTree. Before I drove to the airport, I checked FlightAware. If you are unfamiliar with the flight tracking platform, practice using the website on your next flight. I quickly rebooked my hotel reservation as the plane was boarding. I did not worry about transportation because DoubleTree Manchester offers a complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport.
The staff at the front desk was professional and helped me settle in quickly. The clerk acknowledged my Diamond membership. She handed me a warm chocolate chip cookie, water, and two food vouchers. Of course, I asked for a 2:00PM checkout. I redeemed the evening voucher for a complimentary appetizer at Current, the hotel restaurant. I enjoyed a charcuterie board, deviled eggs, and a cocktail made with syrup. At breakfast, I redeemed the voucher for two muffins and green tea. I enjoyed pancakes too. By the way, New Hampshire is known for its maple syrup. Finally, as a Diamond Member, I can access the Executive Lounge with my room key. Water, soda, granola bars, and mixed nuts are available on the weekends.
I watched the sunrise from my room. Although it was cloudy, the colors of the sky were beautiful. My view from the 7th floor was perfect. After breakfast, I went for a walk around Downtown Manchester. If you are not an animal lover, you will gain an appreciation of the cat murals as you walk down Cat Alley. I stopped at a bookstore when I saw a beautiful Black History Month display in the window. The Bookery was bustling with families enjoying small bites and reading books. A Cat Alley Cuban Panini is on the menu.
I took the shuttle to the airport. As always, do not forget to tip the shuttle driver. Think about how much money I saved because I did not use rideshare. I enjoyed fish and chips at Samuel Adams Meeting House. MHT is a lounge desert. I spent enough time eating and looking for my souvenir Christmas ornament to arrive at my gate in time to start the boarding process. Crossing off New Hampshire from my 50 State Challenge was easy, and I hope to knock off my last seven states within 12 months. If you want to follow along on my journey, visit my website.
