Consider Los Cabos as your next hottest destination. I am visiting Los Cabos for the fourth time in four years. During each visit, I find something new to experience. If you want to be near local shops and restaurants, book your stay at Cabo Azul. I stayed here in 2023.
Of course, I booked this trip in March when fares were reasonable. I redeemed Rapid Rewards points (10,375 plus $47 in fees) for the flight leaving Midway, but I found a lower fare of 9,130 points. The return flight was $308. I received a $9 travel fund. I checked for a lower fare and rebooked. Remember, you can book the lower fare when you find a cheaper flight on SWA. You should monitor your fares at least once a week. Keep in mind that July is hurricane season. Before my scheduled departure, I changed my connecting flight from Houston to Phoenix due to Hurricane Beryl.
If Los Cabos is your next hottest destination, then Cabo Azul is the hottest reservation. According to the Hilton website, a 5-day stay in the 2-bedroom deluxe pool view with a balcony will cost just over $3,000. Of course, I did not pay thousands of dollars to stay at Cabo Azul. My timeshare ownership is with HGV Max, and I redeemed 2,368 Club Points for my stay in Building 3 (Room 3302). Although I hear negative reviews about timeshares, this is my fifth stay at a property (Hilton Head, Las Vegas, Sedona, and Williamsburg) in my portfolio this year. I still have 3,700 Club points to utilize.
Check the activity calendar for things to do at Cabo Azul. Please pay close attention to activities that require reservations. Here are a few activities:
I enjoyed pool aerobics and attended an Owner’s Welcome. There are two restaurants, a wedding chapel, a market, a fitness center, a Sushi Bar, and much more. Of course, I used the laundry room. I always wash my clothes, especially if I am traveling back-to-back. Although you can purchase groceries at the El Mercado, it is pricey.
There are several pools for your convenience. Our room overlooked the adult-only pool. Although the pools open at 8:00AM, the sun does not appear over the adult-only pool until around 9:00. Do not forget to use sunscreen. My dermatologist recommends EltaMD, but I purchase my refills on Amazon. We saw people saving lounge chairs at the infinity pool as early as 6:30.
I recommend Transcabo if you need transportation to your resort, especially if you do not want to use rideshare. You can book online, receive a confirmation, and follow their map out of the airport. Do not forget to tip. Lyft is unavailable, but we used Uber for our ride to the airport.
We took a taxi ($9) to La Comer, the local market, but called an Uber ($4) for the trip back to the resort. We purchased eggs, orange juice, English muffins, a stick of butter, rotisserie chicken, Mexican rice, and water. If you are feeling touristy, catch the bus for $1.
Because I was in Cabo in 2023, I knew exactly where I wanted to dine. The food at JJ Burgers & Salads is fresh and well-prepared. We went for lunch, and our meal with cocktails was only $40. You can also expect excellent customer service. Oh, the Happy Hour for JJ is 4:00PM-7:00PM. We tried ice cream at Thrifty. If you want pizza, try Corleone. For your convenience, JJ, Thrifty, and Corleone are next door to each other. Because of my experience, I chose not to dine at the restaurants on the resort. Besides, I believe in supporting local businesses.
On our last full day in Los Cabos, we dined at Latino 8. We selected the lunch buffet. However, your food is not sitting under hot lights. Instead, it is made-to-order. Because we wanted to try different items, we paid for the buffet. We ordered salad, tortilla and elote soup, surf and turf tacos, ceviche, and carnitas. The entire meal was under $70 with cocktails.
By the way, we used the airport lounge for breakfast on Monday and breakfast and lunch on Friday. Check your travel card rewards benefits.
Again, as a timeshare owner, I saved a lot of money on accommodations for this trip. I will reiterate that you do not need timeshare ownership to stay at Cabo Azul.
