I booked a roundtrip flight to Denver on Southwest and applied 36,000 Hilton Honors points plus cash to reserve a room at the Hilton Inn Denver Union Station based on the reviews on Trip Advisor. One reviewer included the room number that helped me select and book the perfect room. I was not interested in facing Coors Field, so I opted for a view of the city and mountains. The Uber ride from the airport to the Hilton was 30 minutes, but my driver passed the time by suggesting things to do in Denver. Although I went straight to my room and used the Hilton app to check in, I still needed to stop by the front desk to pick up my complimentary breakfast tickets.

What to do in Denver in One Day?

I took an Uber to Voodoo Doughnuts and purchased doughnuts and souvenir mugs. Adrian, the front desk clerk, was professional and provided service with a smile. When I needed to find a store to purchase my souvenir ornament, he found Simply Colorado. He also provided directions to the free transportation system in Denver for the 16th Street Mall. I walked the mall and stopped by H&M and T.J. Maxx before heading to Simply Colorado to purchase my ornament. I learned about Woodie Fisher on the Hilton channel. The entrance to the restaurant is accessible from the hotel, and I arrived in time for Happy Hour from 5:00PM to 6:00PM.

Dinner at Woodie Fisher

Happy Hour at Woodie Fisher features half-sized portions and $2 off selected handcrafted cocktails. I ordered the jalapeño margarita, but I could not decide on the cauliflower or Brussels sprouts, so I ordered both. The Brussels sprouts were the heartier of the two dishes. However, I was still hungry and ordered the Buffalo Chicken sandwich. I finished the night with an old-fashioned (not $2 off). If you are in Denver, you should stop by Woodie Fisher for cocktails and Brussels sprouts. I did not finish the sandwich and would not order the cauliflower again. You will love the ambiance.

Three Things to do in Denver in One Day

Even though I was only in Denver for one day, I visited Voodoo Doughnut, walked the 16th Street Mall, and enjoyed cocktails at Denver’s first fire station, Woodie Fisher. In the morning, I picked up my complimentary breakfast, checked out, walked to Union Station, and purchased my ticket to the airport for $10.50. The Uber from the airport was $38 with a tip. I arrived at the airport in 30 minutes and headed to the Centurion Lounge. Are you an Amex Platinum cardholder? If not, the Centurion Lounge is a perk well worth the annual fee.

Traveling During the Pandemic

Because of the pandemic, foot traffic was light on the 16th Street Mall, no lines at Voodoo Doughnut, and ten customers in Woodie Fisher. I wear a mask, wash my hands consistently, wipe down my area on the plane, and disinfect high-touch items in the hotel. I tested negative for COVID-19 six times. When the world opens up again, inexpensive flights and low hotel rates will disappear.
