I share why I flew to Arizona during the pandemic in this post. The pandemic had me spooked. I believed I would die from the coronavirus and never see my son again. I know I was not thinking clearly, but I missed my only child. Facetime was not the answer.

Accommodations in Arizona During the Pandemic

I am a #boymom. We traveled together for ten days in 2019; I could not imagine going without seeing D. I love staying in downtown Scottsdale, but the increase in coronavirus cases forced me to choose a different location. D recommended I book at The Camby. Because I was supposed to spend Mother’s Day in Arizona, I splurged on my accommodations as a late gift to myself. I told D we would have dinner at Vu Bistro the next day. When I checked in, the desk clerk informed me that limited housekeeping services were available. I received a room upgrade with a mountain view and a 2:00PM late checkout, but I declined because I had an early flight. There was no seal on the door or hand sanitizer in the bathroom. Of course, I wiped down all high-touch areas and then settled in for the night.

The Pool, Biltmore Fashion Park, and Blanco

I would spend my first full day in Phoenix solo. D had to work. The pool area did not have the same level of cleanliness as I experienced at HGV in Vegas. Because I was the only one poolside, I tried to take advantage of the opportunity to lounge in one of the cabanas. However, the curtains around the cabana were dirty. I changed my plans and walked to the mall across the street. After shopping, I stopped for lunch at Blanco. Everyone wore masks and practiced social distancing. I asked my server for suggestions and ordered the Mahi tacos with rice and beans. The portion size was huge. When I walked past the Cheesecake Factory, dessert was calling my name. The cheesecake was a great way to end my evening, and I was super excited about the next day.

Vu Bistro

Why I Flew to Arizona During the PandemicAs I watched Restaurants on the Edge on Netflix, who knew they would feature Arizona. I knew D had to take me there. The drive to Fountainhead was scenic and peaceful. I wanted to try the nachos, but the portion size was huge. D wanted pizza, and I ordered the crab cake. The owner provided dessert. Be prepared for the timing of the meals. My ice cream was melting by the time the bread pudding arrived. However, the food was well prepared, and the portion size was just right. You should check out the episode on Netflix and stop by Vu Bistro if you are in Arizona. The view is incredible, especially as the sun goes down. Even though masks were not required, we wore masks.

Is it Safe to Travel During the Pandemic?

When I arrived at Midway, the Uber fare was $42.00. It seems that more drivers in Chicago were collecting unemployment. I took public transportation for $3.00. Most of the people on the train wore masks, but fewer people wore masks on the bus. It is funny that I never take public transportation in Chicago, but I refused to give Uber $42.00 and a tip. I made it home safely. I always wore a mask and used hand sanitizer frequently. It has been more than 14 days; no sign of coronavirus symptoms. As I said before, I tested negative before I left Chicago. I canceled my trip to Fort Meyers. The increase in coronavirus cases in Florida was enough to make me change my plans. Before planning your next trip, look at the data and make an informed decision.
