Say YES to sales offers; 7 ways to say NO to purchasing. Even though I am a Hilton Grand Vacations owner, I always take advantage of promotional sales offers. In this post, I want to help you understand timeshare presentations better. If you see a promotion, you will be ready.

Say YES to Sales Offers

I am taking advantage of a special invitation from Vistana Adventuras. I booked a roundtrip nonstop flight on Southwest for $380 with accommodations for 4-nights at Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort. Because I paid $269 for my stay, I would attend a 90-120 minute sales presentation. I would also receive 15,000 Marriott Bonvoy points for attending. During my last trip to Cancun, I knew to bypass the madness in the airport and head straight to the SuperShuttle check-in area..

Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort

The resort is about 25 minutes from the airport. When we pulled up to the location, I could not help but notice the mall across the street. My room was not ready. I left my suitcase at the front desk and headed to one of the restaurants on the property for lunch. Before heading to Cancun, I spoke to Rosario and set up an appointment to meet her when I arrived. She called while I was enjoying tacos and margaritas. When I met with Rosario, I made a reservation to attend the Mexican Party and bought tickets for the ferry to visit Isla Mujeres.

The Timeshare Presentation and Isla Mujeres

I scheduled my presentation for the morning. Even though this was not a hard sell, I believe the salesperson thought I would make a purchase. I said yes to the sales offer but used one of my seven ways to say no to the purchase (#6). After the presentation, I took the bus (12 pesos each way) to Playa Tortugas to catch a ferry. There is no way to explain the island. If you are from Chicago, it reminds me of the original Maxwell Street Market. I second-guessed my decision to visit somewhere solo.

The Tale of Two Malls

I went to the mall for lunch. The service at the restaurant was horrible. I could have left without paying. Also, the server did not have change for $20, forcing me to leave a tip. I cannot remember the restaurant. However, the servers are known for delivering cocktails on their heads. I walked to Ah Chocolate Café for a brownie and discovered the high-end stores at La Boutique Palacio. No one tried to hustle me, but armed guards patrolled the area

Say YES to sales offers; 7 ways to say NO to purchasing

The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort is a beautiful property. Although I was in a studio unit, it was more than enough space for one person, and I enjoyed watching the sunrise on the balcony. The location was perfect, and the proximity to the mall was a bonus. I said yes to the sales offer, but here are 7 ways to say no to making a purchase. I have used the following seven reasons at least once.

#7 I already own. I realize this does not stop anyone from the sales pitch especially since I purchased a deed once. I do not need another timeshare.

#6 My vacation ownership is more flexible. If you do not own a timeshare, use reasons 1-5 to say no if you do not want to buy.

#5 I am buying on the resale market. The team will discourage you by telling you resale properties do not work with their current system.

More Ways to Say NO to Purchasing

#4 My job is going to strike. We went on strike in October.

#3 I cannot afford it. If you accept an offer, you must meet the minimum qualifications before you book. However, you can say you cannot afford to purchase now.

#2 If you schedule a 90-minute presentation, you only have to stay 90 minutes. Start the timer on your phone. I once told a salesperson I was not buying within 20 minutes. We sat in his office and talked about Chicago for the next hour. He could not let me leave. Besides, I agreed to sit through the presentation.

Final Way to Say NO

#1 I am not buying.

I had a salesperson ask if I was wearing Tiffany glasses. Not only was I wearing Tiffany frames, but my iPhone was in my Prada purse, and my Apple watch was on my wrist. Really. I am not buying, and get out of my pockets! If you feel pressured, say so. Years ago, I wrote a letter immediately after leaving a presentation stating I felt pressured and no longer wanted to buy. I dropped the signed letter in the mailbox before I left Orlando and sent another copy by certified mail when I returned to Chicago. Hopefully, after reading this post, you can say Yes to the sales offer. You also have five to seven reasons for not buying a timeshare.
