I share what to expect if you fly to Costa Rica in this post. For my first international trip in 2021, I decided to fly to Costa Rica. Even though I did not plan this trip, I want to provide insight into the planning process. I discovered a travel advisor. Although I could have researched flights, hotels, and things to do, I felt comfortable allowing someone else to plan this trip because the rules constantly changed during the pandemic.
Lesley answered all questions about my Delta Vacations. We corresponded 11 times via email as well as several phone calls. Because I am a Delta SkyMiles member, I received $100.00 credit. I used it to offset the cost of travel insurance. Because my reservation for a junior suite was at a Westin property, I wanted to earn credit as a Marriott Bonvoy member. Lesley suggested I speak to the concierge at the resort. Although I selected the Westin, Lesley offered other options. This resort is all-inclusive but family-friendly. Lesley would book my room in an adult-friendly area on the property. I also added transportation to my package.
So far, the cost of this trip is $2543.48. I made two payments: October 2020 and February 2021. If you read about my travel savings plan, I received a check ($1286.52) in November 2020. I used those funds to cover the first payment of my trip. Because I worked from home during the pandemic, I saved enough money for the balance. Lesley booked my Delta Vacations for four nights. I flew from Chicago with a connecting flight in Atlanta. On the return flight, I had a three-hour layover, but I had options of airport lounges. Although the middle seats were open, you will sit next to someone when there are two seats in a row. I saved money booking with Lesley. If you need help planning an international trip, contact Lesley Egbert at Live Longitude Travel. There is a fee for the service.
Even though you will not need a negative COVID-19 test to enter Costa Rica, you will need a negative test to leave. Add $85.00 to the cost of this trip. It does not matter if you are vaccinated. When Lesley contacted me for the final payment, Costa Rica changed the rules. Now I needed to purchase additional insurance to cover expenses in case of a quarantine. Add $66.62. I uploaded proof of insurance when I completed my travel screener 48 hours before the flight. I received a QR code to show the Delta agent along with my passport and boarding pass.
Of course, I visited the official Costa Rica website because I wanted to know what to expect. Did you know Costa Rica is one of the safer places for women traveling solo? After reading about tetanus and rabies shots, I called Lesley and phoned a friend. No shots.
I was going to take my new suitcase until I read, “Keep your luggage close.” If possible, do not check your luggage. Therefore, I only took a carry-on to Costa Rica, and I packed six swimsuits, three coverups, two outfits for dinner, and two pairs of sandals in addition to personal items. Finally, make a copy of your passport to always keep with you. You now know what to expect if you fly to Costa Rica.
